Entry #33: March 7, 2006
Camp Buehring, Kuwait (Somewhere near the Iraq border)
Now I’m ticked off. This is the last straw. One group says we’re too conservative and narrow-minded. Now another misguided collection of so-called Christians say we’re too liberal. What am I talking about? I’m talking about protests, free speech, “don’t ask, don’t tell”, and a Soldier’s right to be buried in peace.
For years, ever since former President Clinton came up with his “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy concerning gays in the military, homosexuals and liberals everywhere have demonstrated against this policy, with some colleges even banning the military from recruiting on its campuses (in regards to colleges who receive federal money, this was recently ruled illegal by the Supreme Court). Recently, I’ve come across another group who isn’t a big fan of this policy—they think it’s shameful that we even allow homosexuals to live and God is punishing our country by killing our soldiers. Instead of appealing to the Pentagon through lobbying and other means, they taken their protest where it does not belong—to the sidewalks in front of churches where funerals for fallen Soldiers and Marines are held. When I read this, I muttered some words that my Mom would still wash my mouth out for using. I am livid.
Apparently, a Baptist church in Kansas has taken to protesting our military’s gay policy by parading around with signs at funerals for military. These so-called Christians are carrying signs that say things like “Thank God for IEDs” and “Thank God for Dead Soldiers”. What kind of demented people are these? Do they not know many of these same military members are Christians themselves and are now standing next to God praying for their souls?
Something should be done about these people. Sure, you might be thinking, “but it’s still free speech”. No, I disagree. The Supreme Court has ruled that shouting fire in a crowded theater can’t be counted as free speech, and neither should the deplorable actions by these dastardly folks. I’ve got half a mind to stick an IED somewhere unpleasant up these group members.
When I plant my feet back on the terra firma of the U.S., I am going to go to a funeral of a fallen comrade in arms, even if I do not know the individual, and I am going to pay my respects the proper Christian way, praying for the fallen soldier’s soul and his family. If I see this “congregation” from Kansas, God help me, I will smite them down one way or another. I won’t take it, and no one else should either.
I’m gonna suggest that lawmakers pass a law banning protests, of any kind, near funerals. I urge you all to join me in this drive to preserve the sanctity and honor each individual who has paid the ultimate sacrifice has earned. Everyone deserves to be buried in peace, especially those who died in war. And so the Soldier’s life continues…
“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season ; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
